Scentsy Review of the Company
Scentsy as a company was founded in 2004 by Collette Gunnell and Kara Egan who introduced the Scentsy Wickless Candle at a home party in Meridian, Idaho. It was later purchased by Thomas Orville and his wife, Heidi Thompson, who are currently the owners and heads of the company.
Thomas Orville has extensive experience in direct-selling and business building and has led the Scentsy company into unprecendented growth in such a short time.
Scentsy is currently operating in the United States, Guam, Canada, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom, Germany and Netherlands. It prides itself of having more than 110,000 active Scentsy Distributors marketing their products through a direct-selling/party-plan approach.
Scentsy is a privately-owned company, a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA), and one of the fastest growing company in 2011 by Inc. 500 List.
As it enters it’s 7th year in business, Scentsy has proven itself to be a solid company, considering most companies won’t even survived 5-years in this business.
Scentsy Review of the Products
Scentsy prides itself in producing a wide variety of products including but not limited to the following;
- Scentsy Wickless Candle – the company’s flagship product which is a scented, wickless candle heated in a decorative ceramic warmer that provides all the benefits of a traditional candle without the flame, soot or smoke.
- Scentsy Candle Warmer - made of high-quality ceramic and uses an electric heating element to slowly melt soft and scented wax bars to maximize fragrance in time. It uses a low-watt bulb hot enough to melt the wax but not enough to burn if spilled.
- Scentsy Bars – are small blocks of scented paraffin wax blended with superior scent loading capability to produce vibrant fragrance. Each bar last approximately 50-60 hours.
Scentsy also have other fragrance products including car fragrances, room fragrances and sprays, and travel tins. By providing alternative to traditional candles, Scenty is capturing the market for candle lovers and fragrance lovers by using a product that doesn’t produce flame, soot, smoke and lead.
Scentsy markets their products mainly through a direct-selling and party-plan approach through an independent Scentsy Consultant or distributor.
Scentsy Review of the Cost of Entry and Compensation Plan
To get involved with Scentsy, cost of entry is around $99, and you can either become a;
- Preferred customer – to avail of the wholsale price
- Independent Scentsy Consultant – to earn commission and build a Scentsy business
In order to remain active as an Independent Scentsy Consultant and earn commission, you need to maintain $150 in personal retail volume in a given month.
There are various ways to get paid inside the Scentsy Compensation Plan:
- Through retail profits
- Through bonuses
- Through advancement and leadership levels – by building a team or downline of active consultants
- Residual Income – from building large teams and /or downline
Scentsy, as with other MLM companies, encourages building large team or downline, because they understood that large number of people equals massive sales volumes.
Scentsy Review of their Training and Marketing Method
Scentsy primarily markets their products and business opportunity through a direct-selling and party-plan approach. They focus on open house, home parties, expos and events, word of mouth, and other offline approaches.
My Scentsy Review Verdict…
Scentsy is a great and legitimate company with legitimate products and business opportunity. It has a very targeted niche for their products and can be a very profitable business with low cost of entry.
However, because it’s focus is mainly on traditional approach to marketing, I strongly believe that there is more potential to make money with Scentsy if Scentsy Independent Consultants integrate online marketing approaches, like Social Media,etc., in addition to their traditional approaches. Home parties are not enough, and if you’re like me, shy and don’t like to approach strangers and bug friends and families, this approach won’t get me nowhere.
I believe that when you combine marketing on the internet and your offline approaches, that’s where the magic begins. But what really is the game changer is to have a solution to the #1 problem faced by network marketers today, which is Lack of Leads, or lack of people to talk to. When you are able to solve this problem, you can literally write your own check!
Therefore, I strongly encourage you to learn this skill of generating your own leads on the internet, so you can bring them offline on the phone or in person and sponsor them into your business.
